Educational reform is an ongoing endeavor. Gov. Terry Branstad’s reform package is a great start for us to consider how we will change the educational agenda in Iowa. Many of us do not agree with every component of “One Unshakable Vision: World-Class Schools for Iowa.” But the basic premise that we need to improve education in Iowa is spot-on.

As the legislature wrestles with the different proposals, we need to accept as many as possible and try something different. There is no doubt that the test scores in Iowa have remained stagnant with just a slight increase over the last 10-15 years. We need to do better.

As you take a look at the attached Jan. 6, 2012, brief on “Branstad-Reynolds Administration Recommendations for World-Class Schools,” please consider how each and every proposal could be utilized to increase the achievement of students in Iowa.

Many of the blogs in this edition of “Connections” reflect the best practices that could make a difference in education. Please be sure to give them a read.
