Two northwest Iowa citizens were recently elected to the Northwest Area Education Agency (AEA) board. Glen Coble replaced Tom Bruegger in District 6 and Mike McAlpine stepped in for Adella Hulstein in District 2.

Coble will serve District 6, which includes the school districts of Lawton-Bronson, Sgt. Bluff-Luton, Sioux City Precincts 20 & 26, Westwood, West Monona, Whiting and Woodbury Central. Tom Bruegger of Onawa served the district for 18 years before Coble was elected.

Also an Onawa resident, Coble and his wife, Jennifer, have three children in the West Monona Community School District. He graduated from Wayne State College and is an assistant store leader at Scheels in Sioux City. Coble is a member of the Knights of Columbus and coaches youth baseball.

After 27 years of serving as an AEA board member and president, Adella Hulstein of Sioux Center stepped down, leaving a vacancy in District 2. Now McAlpine will advocate on behalf of families in the districts of Akron-Westfield, Boyden-Hull, Sheldon, Sioux Center and West Sioux.

McAlpine and his wife, Jean, live in Sioux Center, where they have raised two children. He is a wealth management group president at Peoples Bank and holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of South Dakota and an MBA degree from the University of Montana. He is a board member for Premier Communications, Iowa Trust Association, Accutech Corp and the Sioux Center Hospital and Health Foundation. He is also active with Boy Scouts and Big Brothers/Big Sisters.
