Dr. Jerry Valentine, professor of educational leadership and policy analysis at the University of Missouri, will present, "Instructional Practices Inventory: Improving Student Engagement in the Classroom" on Jan. 28 at River Valley High School in Correctionville from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The IPI process:
• Focuses on student engagement in learning, not teacher behavior.
• Provides a detailed profile of school-wide student engagement across six categories, including two categories of higher order and deeper learning and four categories that are lower order and more passive or non-engaging.
• Provides engagement data that serve as the basis for critical faculty-wide collaborative conversations.
• Builds an objective, valid profile of student engagement “snapshots” collected throughout the school day that teachers will view as fair and accurate, and thus be willing to study reflectively.
