Northwest AEA is an approved provider for several state-recognized certification programs that support school activities. One of these programs is substitute authorization.
The Substitute Authorization allows an individual to substitute in a middle school, junior high or high school for no more than five consecutive days in one job assignment. Eligible participants are persons who already hold a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution or who have completed the Paraeducator Certification and are currently working as a paraeducator in a special education classroom. All candidates must be at least 21 years of age and must successfully complete the DCI/FBI background check. The training consists of 20 hours of training plus a two-hour classroom observation.
Northwest AEA has a course scheduled for Jan. 23, 24 and 31, 2015, in Le Mars. On Friday, Jan. 23, the class will go from 4-8:30 p.m.; and on Saturdays, Jan. 24 and 31, the class will be from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
