One of the resources I get the most questions about is MackinVia. MackinVia provides access to ebooks purchased by NWAEA as well as digital audio books.
Initial Access: If you have never accessed MackinVia <www.mackinvia.com> before, you can do so by typing in the name of your school building and then selecting it from the list. Use your Iowa AEA Online username and password to access the site.
Personal Accounts: To fully realize the benefits of the MackinVia site, you and your students will want to have backpack or personal accounts. You can create these individual accounts one at a time, your MackinVia administrator can create these accounts, or you can have Mackin create school-wide accounts for you. If you have a MackinVia backpack account you will be able to save your favorite resources in one place, check-out and request materials, and save any notes you take. You’ll also need a backpack account to use the MackinVia app on a mobile device. To individually create an account, click on the Login button above the Backpack icon found in the upper right corner. Then click register. Complete your registration information and click save when you’re done. From now on, you’ll be able to login using your personal username and password.
Mobile Devices using the App: Books and audiobooks can be read and listened to on mobile devices as well. You’ll need to download the free MackinVia app. Do a search for MackinVia in your app store. There are apps for Android devices, Kindle Fire tablets, Chromebooks, iPads, iPhones, and iPods, Mac desktops and laptops; and Window desktops, laptops and tablets. To access the MackinVia app on your mobile device, you will need to have a backpack and login using your personal username and password. The MackinVia app will allow users to read and listen to content with or without access to the Internet. If you want to use an ebook or digital audiobook where you do not have Internet access, just download the resource onto your device beforehand for offline reading later. Once a title is checked out to you, it’s easy to download it to your device for offline reading using the app. Look for the “Download” button next to each title in “My Checkouts.”
We’ll continue looking at MackinVia next month as well. In the meantime, you can go to http://www.mackin.com/aea for video tutorials and more information on how to successfully use MackinVia. Feel free to email me with questions as well: firstname.lastname@example.org
