Northwest AEA will be hosting a Special Education Symposium in three different locations on three different dates. We are hoping that by providing regional opportunities, it will allow our special educators to attend.

On October 6, the Special Education Symposium will be held in Sioux City at the NWAEA office. On October 7 the Symposium will be in Sheldon at NWICC, and October 8, we will be meeting in Denison at the Boulders Convention Center on Donna Reed Road. All three locations will provide the same informative content.

We have a wide variety of topics that will provide practical teaching strategies for students with IEPs. Each 75-minute block of time will provide three different break-out sessions for the participants to select/ attend based on interest and need. Several of our topics will be presented twice so teachers can attend more sessions. Topics include the following: Elementary Reading Strategies, IEP and Procedural Updates, Autism Strategies, Low Tech Assistive Technology, Secondary Reading Strategies, Transition Services, Supports for Mental Health Concerns, Math Teaching Strategies, and Access for Special Kids (ASK Resource Center).

In addition, we will have representatives from Morningside College, Buena Vista University, Briar Cliff University, Western Iowa Tech Community College, 95% Groups, Scholastic, and Curriculum Associate iReady. The vendors will be sharing materials, information, and educational resources.
