In a recent article titled, "Time out: Using the outdoors to enhance classroom performance" by the National Wildlife Federation, the authors discuss the effects of inactivity and lack of unstructured play on children today. They stress the need for encouraging kids to get outside and to engage in free play. In the article, the American Academy of Pediatrics states that American children are over-scheduled and often overextended, especially as they get older.
