Dear Colleagues,

It is that time of year when districts are administering district and statewide assessments.  There are accommodations that may be used with ELs.  Attached are resources you may find helpful.

Table 1a and 1b list the accommodations and limitations for each accommodation. Table 2 helps you determine which accommodations are appropriate at each stage of language acquisition.

Please note:  These accommodations should be provided to EL students, who need them, in the general education classroom on a daily basis.  Students should not be introduced to an accommodation for the first time on an assessment. Therefore, if a student needs an accommodation, he or she should already be use to the accommodation prior to assessment.
