We are pleased to inform you Northwest AEA is bringing Nilda Aquirre back to our area. She will be presenting a virtual workshop called "Identifying and Teaching Gifted English Learners" on March 10th and 11th, 2021. For more information see the attached flyer. Please share this information with educators in your district. Schools are strongly encouraged to send a team consisting of the EL teacher, GT teacher, General Education Teacher Coach and an administrator.

On March 10 and 11, Nilda Aguirre, the deputy executive director for the National Association for Bilingual Education (2011-2018) and the conference coordinator for the Iowa Culture & Language Conference, will present "Identifying & Teaching Gifted English Learners" on March 10 & 11 virtually.

Key components that will be addressed:

  • characteristics of EL-gifted students
  • identification protocol
  • observation protocol
  • strategies for working with EL-gifted students
  • implementation of a new process.
