Governor Kim Reynolds has agreed that Iowa will be a STEAM State, not just a STEM State. This was great news for fine arts teachers across the state. It was also exciting for the Statewide Fine Arts Leadership Team to begin working on this initiative when they met on December 3, 2019 in Des Moines.

One of the resources that was examined was from the Institute for Arts Integration and STEAM. The Leadership Team agreed that with a STEAM initiative, art should not be viewed as an add-on, but rather the fine arts should be integrated. You can find a free poster here, that clearly articulates some of our thoughts for fine arts and STEAM.

To begin integrating STEAM lessons into your elementary art classroom, Tricia Fuglestad has several STEAM lessons available on her website. You can find those lessons here: https://www.smore.com/tgcne-steam-art-lessons.

Midnight Music has STEAM Resources and Activities for the Music Classroom. These lessons engage students in real-world problems. You can find them here: https://midnightmusic.com.au/2017/11/steam-resources-and-activities-for-the-music-classroom/.

If you have found other great resources or websites, or created your own ideas, please share them to this blog.
