It might seem a little early to be thinking about our next T.I.C.L conference, but representatives from Prairies Lakes and Northwest AEA have already begun the process of planning for next summer's conference. The conference will again be at Buena Vista University in Storm Lake. The dates for the conference are June 17 - 19. This years featured speaker is Richard Byrne. Richard Byrne is an educator and is probably best known for his blog, Free Technology for Teachers which is designed to share information about free resources that teachers can use in their classrooms. Richard's blog has been recognized numerous times and has been awarded best resource sharing blog, best individual blog, best tech blog, and best ed tech support blog. Richard is a Google Certified Teacher. As an educator, he has taught courses in global studies and English/Language Arts. Richard also piloted a 1:1 laptop initiative in his school before the district went school-wide. In 2010, Richard Byrne was a finalist for ACTEM's Educator of the Year award. To quote Richard Byrne, "I believe that when used correctly, technology has the power to improve student engagement and student achievement. I also believe that technology gives teachers the ability to form powerful, global, professional learning communities." The last statement is powerful. Richard Byrne has been part of my professional learning community for several years. Using RSS, I subscribe to his blog. I have learned much from him during that time and am looking forward to meeting him in person. We hope you can join us this summer!
