All children birth through high school can be tested at any time by calling the AEA Hearing Department. The child must be a resident of Iowa or attend a school in Iowa to receive services. The AEA works in conjunction with local Iowa hospitals to conduct follow-up hearing tests for those newborns that do not pass the birth screening. Annual hearing screenings are done in the schools for kindergarten through 5th grade, 8th grade, students new to the school district, and any student with a known hearing loss.
