The Northwest Area Education Agency Autism Resource Team offers resources and collaborative problem-solving to schools, families, and local communities. With multiple disciplines being represented, the NWAEA Autism Resource Team has a vast knowledge base to facilitate individual student learning. Trainings led by this team are founded in evidence-based practices for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and for those that learn like an individual with ASD.

The Northwest AEA Autism team works in collaboration with building-level school teams and families in the areas of assessment and intervention. Assessments are completed to inform and assist school teams with educational programming based on student strengths and areas of need. Behavioral and academic interventions are recommended using data from the student’s current setting, evidence-based strategies, and resources available to support best-practices in the least restrictive environment. Additional supports available through the Autism Resource Team vary based on student, school, and family needs.

At Northwest AEA, the Autism Resource team works in collaboration with the Siouxland Autism Support group to host a monthly meeting focused on educating families about all aspects of having a child with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Social training and/or events are provided for children during the year, as well, through this support group. For more information, contact Siouxland Autism Support group.
