Ways to Strengthen Coaching in Summer
I know many of you are thinking that learning is the LAST thing you want to do this summer. You just finished another difficult year. I get it! Maybe enjoy June and then learn a few things in July and August.
Now that I have your attention …
One book I want to read this summer is It Didn’t Start With You by Mark Wolynn. A colleague just shared this with me as she knows I have been conducting a book study with paras on Dr. Bruce Perry and Oprah’s book What Happened to You? Both books discuss trauma and how it has shaped us and how we end the cycle. Do you have other coaching book suggestions for me? I would welcome them!
Some podcasts I plan to get caught up on when I walk are Elena Aguilar’s “Bright Morning,” “Self-Care for Educators” by Tina Boogren, and “Unlocking Us” by Brene Brown. Do you have any coaching podcast recommendations for me? I would welcome those as well!
A learning opportunity we are offering at Northwest AEA this summer is called “Instructional Coaching Open Gym.” This one day workshop is offered on June 14 at the LeMars AEA and June 21 at our new office at 5800 Discovery Blvd. in Sioux City. The time is slotted for 9:00am - 3:00pm, but you are able to come and go as you please. You are free to stop in and network for an hour or all six. It is whatever “training” you need in the Coaching Gym.
Another new learning experience is “R2: Reflect & Refine Coaching” on August 31 in our new headquarters from 8:30am - 3:30pm. This workshop has been a coordinated effort with Prairie Lakes AEA. Our August day is planned, and I could not be more excited for it. This would be a wonderful opportunity for you to kick start your coaching for the new school year.
Those of us on Northwest AEA’s TLN team want to support you and help you grow professionally. We welcome any feedback on how to best meet your needs. Enjoy your summer, slow down, find joy in the simple things, spend lots of time in nature with family, and look for opportunities to learn and grow!
